Unlike PRP which collects and concentrates more general regenerative cells and growth factors from the serum in your blood, Regenera Activa uses hair follicles taken from the donor area on the back of your head to create a solution of growth factors, regenerative cells, and stem cells that are specific to hair and scalp and provide a significantly improved amount of hair follicle growth compared to PRP. This solution is an mixture of saline and autologous cells and growth factors (autologous meaning from your own body) so there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. Regenera activa treatment can be done alone or in conjunction with a hair transplant or other therapies.

This is because of where the tissue that is put into solution is harvested from and where it is injected. Regenera Activa treatment is appropriate for both male and female patients with hair thinning due to male or female pattern hair loss. Regenera Active therapy can be especially useful in very young men with a strong family history of severe hair loss who want to help minimize the hair loss they will develop. Regenera Activa is not believed to be helpful in areas where someone is skin bald as those hair follicles have already scarred over and cannot be regenerated with Regenera Activa therapy. Additionally, Regenera Activa therapy is not appropriate for patient with hair loss due to burns, scars, autoimmune disorders, or infectious causes.

Preparation
Preparation for Regenera Activa treatment is minimal. No pre procedure medications need to be taken. The only major preparation that must be done is to ensure that other medical conditions and other medications that are normally taken will not interfere with the procedure.
Procedure
The procedure itself is minor compared to a hair transplant and can typically be done in around an hour. First, local anesthesia is performed in the back of the scalp and then a small number of hair follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp using the FUE harvesting technique. After harvest, the hair follicles are processed using the Regenera Activa system to create a solution containing growth factors, regenerative cells, and stem cells. After the solution is created, the solution is injected into the scalp at 1cm intervals and at the same depth as the hair follicles throughout the treatment area.
Recovery
Recovery from Regenera Activa therapy is short. The donor sites close completely over the course of 3-5 days, after which they will have a reddish color as they continue to heal over a period of weeks. The redness at the donor sites will fade with time and will eventually return to your normal skin color. For the recipient area, the individual injection sites close within 1-2 days and heal completely within the first week.
